Study Humor And Embrace It For All the Considerable Good It Can Do

“…it is only regrettable that most men, women, blacks, Jews, Catholics, or members of any other social group find it difficult to laugh at the idiosyncrasies of their group when the jokes that point them out are being told by members of another group. We distrust the joke-teller’s motives. Is he or she telling us an amusing story or giving us a dig? Is his or her intention to produce enjoyment or to put us in our place? Ultimately, however, we all should be able to make fun of each other in the recognition that we are members of the human race. As human beings, we all share the basic flaws on which humor feeds: pretentiousness, hypocrisy, rigidity, immaturity, self-centeredness, lustfulness, simple foolishness—the list is long. Let’s continue laughing at each other and ourselves. It is surely preferable to gunning each other down.” -Harvey Mindesskevin-hart-the two thingsHumanity has unquestionably one really effective weapon—laughter. Power, money, persuasion, supplication, persecution—these can lift at a colossal humbug—push it a little—weaken it a little, century by century, but only laughter can blow it to rags and atoms at a blast. Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand. — Mark TwainBombeck-thin lineA good laugh is a mighty good thing, a rather too scarce good thing. — Herman Melvillechaplin-laughte is the tonicAmong those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can: all of them make me laugh.  — W. H. Audenlincoln-the fearful strainAnd keep a sense of humor. It doesn’t mean you have to tell jokes. If you can’t think of anything else, when you’re my age, take off your clothes and walk in front of a mirror. I guarantee you’ll get a laugh. — Art Linkletterhysterical-laughter-cartoon
